West Devon's Cornwood retained their indoor title by beating Shobrooke Park in an enjoyable afternoon of cricket at the Sidmouth Centre. They go on to play Cornish Champions Werrington as the Ashmoor Centre, Ashburton on Sunday 25th February starting at 6.00pm. The first semi-final saw Shobrooke Past post the highest score of the day 126-3 with Andrew Codling retiring on 27, skipper Richard Pyle scoring 16, Phil Anning undefeated on 22 and vetern Francis Pyle scoring a quickfire 21. For Ashburton D.Topping took 2-30. In reply Ashburton encountered a very mean spell from Francis Pyle who took 3-9 off three. The Ashes leading batsman was Ashley Harvey who was caught behind for 19. Ashburton lost five wickets in scoring 73.

The second semi was a real nail biter Cornwood batted first and scored 109-4 with Martin Cooksley starring with the bat having retired on 25 he came back to end undefeated on 39. Extras added a valuable 28 and the Ottery St Mary spin of Richard Townsend took 2-30. A splendid opening partnership between Robert Bradshaw-Smith and John Tierney put the home side on track but when Tierney was caught for 20 and Bradshaw-Smith had to retire Cornwood started to exert the pressure. Young Sam Tennant hit a useful 12 but he was the first of three run outs the last being the critical wicket of Bradshaw-Smith as his side were all out in the last over eight runs short, an outstanding game of indoor cricket.    Next
