Kenya Tour 2006

Devon Over 50’s Cricket Club have now finalised their forthcoming tour to Kenya.  This follows the very successful tour to South Africa  in later March 2005.

Thirty six tourists leave London on the 6th April 2006 returning on Saturday 22nd April 2006.  Five games of cricket have been arranged against local clubs and the tour includes safaris to Lake Nkuru and the Masai Mara and during the second week the group will split with some flying to Mombassa on the eastern coast of Kenya with the other group departing to the edge of the Great Rift Valley overlooking Lake Naivashsa.

Accommodation has been arranged at the famous Nairobi Club with its 20 acres of sports facilities including its own cricket ground.  Lake Nkuru Lodge which overlooks the famous lake and the tens of thousands of pink flamingo.

In the Masai Mara accommodation is at the Fig Tree Camp which overlooks the Tallek River and for those visiting Mombassa accommodation is at the luxury beach front hotel the Voyager Beach Resort.

Those going to the Great Rift Valley will stay at the Great Rift Valley Lodge. Games have been arranged at the Nairobi Gymkhana Club, The Rift Valley Sports Club, Nairobi Jaffery Sports Club and two games at the Nairobi Club.

The tourists are keenly awaiting the challenge of visiting and travelling through Kenya and playing cricket at 6,000 feet above sea level.  The tour organiser Chris Theedom will of course be taking smelling salts and respirators and after his advice to all players to go into serious fitness training the pre-tour meeting on Sunday 19th February is eagerly awaited.

It is anticipated that this will be one of the fittest, athletic and finely tuned cricket team to have ever left the shores of England.
