First round review & second round draw

THE first round of the McKinley White Twenty20 cup is now completed and saw Seaton, Countess Wear and Clyst St George progress to the second round and big matches against opponents from higher up the Devon League structure.

   Countess Wear had the most emphatic result, thumping Kenn at home by 10 wickets with James Blackmore (58no) and James Bogue (56no) chasing down Kenn's 131/7 in good time.   Countess Wear's reward is a second round fixture against Exeter at the County Ground.

   Seaton have earned a home game against Exmouth with an emphatic win over local rivals Axminster.   Seaton posted 143/7 with Greg Foxwell top scoring with 41.   Seaton managed just 92 in reply with Foxwell again to the fore with 5/25.

   In the final first round match Clyst St George entertained Topsham St James at the Bohea Field.   Clyst posted 145 for 9 with openers James Watson (31) and Matt Cook (27) top scoring.   Topsham were rolled for 84 with Olly Whitton (3/12) and Mark Couch (2/9) doing the early damage.   Clyst now entertain reigning champions Sidmouth in the next round.

   Finals day is again at Clyst St George's Bohea Field ground. The date set aside is Sunday, July 5.

   The winners go through to the county Twenty20 finals day when the regional winners from South, East, West, North, Mid-Devon, Plymouth and Teignbridge decide who goes forward into the national competition.

  

First Round Results

   Kenn 131-7 (N Dart 31), Countess Wear 132-0 (J Blackmore 58no, J Bogue 56no). Countess Wear won by 10 wickets.

   Seaton 143-/7 (G Foxwell 41, D Cottam 29, B Fuzzard 3-28), Axminster 92-9 (R Prior 28, G Foxwell 5-25). Seaton won by 51 runs.

   Clyst St George 14-/9 (J Watson 31, M Cook 27),   Topsham St James 84 (B Bosomworth 29no, O Whitton 3/12, M Couch 2/9). Clyst won by 61 runs

  Second round: Seaton v Exmouth (June 3); Exeter v Countess Wear, Clyst SG v Sidmouth; Alphington v   Clyst Hydon. To be played by June 14.
