HOLDERS Chudleigh made it two wins in two starts with a 28-run win over Abbotskerswell to go top of group one outright in the Newton Twenty20.

   Abbotskerswell were level on points prior to the match, but drop down to second now.

   Chudleigh posted a testing total of 156 for four which was built around a knock of 63 by Mark Halse.

   Halse, who swung away three sixes, put on 106 for the second wicket with Fehan Adil (42) and kept on going until the score reached 113. When he want, Mark Heather (18) kept the scoreboard ticking over.

   Bowling wise, Steve Short (2-5) was cheap and Danny Full (3-22) was effective.

   Abbots set of in hot pursuit with Short and Full posting 78 for the first wicket. Full was first out for 41 while Short, who helped himself to three sixes, was finally out for 58.

   Once short went Abbots collapsed in a heap and Mark Solway cashed in by claiming three wickets for five run in his only over as the losers slumped to 128 all out.

   Chudleigh 156-4 (M Halse 63, F Adil 42, M Heather 18; D I Full 3-22, S R Short 2-5), Abbotskerswell 128 (D I Full 41, S R Short 58; B de Silva 3-20, M Solway 3-5), Chudleigh bt Abbots by 28 runs.

BOVEY Tracey put their shock defeat at Kingskerswell last time out behind them to administer a 64-run hiding on South Devon at Marsh Road.

   Andrew Kingdon, who has flourished with the bat since joining Bovey from Paignton at the start of the season, top scored for with 66 off 52 balls with seven fours and a six.

   Kingdon and Andy Fairbairn (37) carted South Devon's bowlers around in a stand of 74 for the third wicket.

   When Fairbairn got out, Kingdon carried on and kept the runs coming in stands with Simon Newton and Aaron DeYounge as Bovey reached 153 for seven.

   David Knowles (4-30) took wickets at the end and was on a hat-trick at one stage.

   South Devon knew they would be sunk without a good start, so losing big-hitter Rizwan Saeed in single figures didn't do them any favours.

   Charlie Carter (3-15) and Pete Bradley (2-9) kept the runs down and by halfway the asking rate was a hefty 10 an over.

   Phil Blackmore batted through for an unbeaten 40 as South Devon meandered to 89 for six when their overs ran out.
