WEDNESDAY,JULY 25

THERE was plenty of drama in the Exeter Evening League KO Cup final between Clyst Hydon and Exeter on the County Ground which went down to the last ball of the night,

Clyst looked to get off to a fast start through Richard Baggs and David Lye. However, tight, accurate bowling by Justin Dollow (3-23) and Christian Bostock (2-20) had the opposite effect as Clyst slipped to five for two.

When Trevor Anning Anning fell to a great one-handed catch by Richard Nelsey it sparked a mini collapse to 36 for five just short of halfway.

Graham Trude (22) and Danesh Nandana (31no) gave the innings impetus by putting on 53 for the seventh wicket and help post a total of 111 for Exeter to chase.

Exeter lost Rob Wass early for a duck but Marshall Hood and Rob Holman (pictured) got the score up to 46 for one from eight overs.

Anning and Lye (3-22) put the pressure on Exeter, who lost Hood to a run out then wobbled to 76 for five with four overs left.

With Holman at the crease, and Jon Tipper, just in, the final was set for a thrilling finale.

Exeter got down to the final over needing 12 to win. Nandana was steaming in and every fielder was on the boundary.

When Tipper connected with the third ball for a six over mid-wicket, an Exeter victory was in sight.

With one run needed from the final two balls, Nandana responded by clean bowling Tipper for 16.

However, Exeter scrambled a single from the final ball to claim the cup for the first time in 83 years. Holman collected the Man of the Match award for his knock of 58 not out.
