   Tuesday, May 15

   DIVISION ONE

LAST year's EEL Cup winners BusinessSwitch.co.uk took on newly promoted Shobrooke Cruisers at the university ground winning by 58 runs.

BusinessSwitch.co.uk got off to a flying start through openers Pete Bradley and Adrian Pullin. Bradley scored freely and played some exquisite shots in his majestic 95 with Pullin making 19 in a hard hitting innings. Good middle order support from Andy Kingdon and James Hope (15) steered the home side to 158-7 off their 20 overs. The pick of the Cruisers' bowlers were W May (3-30) and J Gebler (2-38).

Shobrooke Cruisers made a slow start in reply against Mike Cliff's lively bowling (0-3) off four overs and economical overs from Hope (1-7) and Nigel Fereday (1-9). The Cruisers went on to make 100-7 with M Cooke (16*) and J Furest (17) the only batsmen to offer any resistance. Extras top scored with 27.

Exeter completed a comfortable eight-wicket victory over Bradninch thanks to some tight bowling and aggressive batting.

Choosing to bat first, Bradninch got off to a fairly slow start thanks to some tight bowling by Christian Bostock and Justin Dollow. Only opening bat Gary Newall (36) showed some positive counter attacking to keep the scoreboard ticking. Introduction of spinner Paul Short (2-26) carried on keeping the run rate down and a lively 20 by Acton, until being removed by Bostock (2-15), pushed the score to 100 off the 20 overs.

Exeter started the run chase positively, despite losing Rob Holman cheaply. Robin Wass (51no) and Jon Tipper (28) pushed the score along at a rapid pace, thanks to some big hitting, including 5 maximums, so that when Tipper fell to Dunlavey, Exeter only needed another 16 to win off 12 overs. With rain threatening, Exeter got past the winning post with more than nine overs to go.

The game between Shobrooke Park and Clyst Hydon was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

Batting first on a slow wicket the weathermen were dismissed for 101, extras top scoring with 30 and Ashley Hayden scoring 16 with the bat. In reply, a solid 51 from opener George Greed, supported well by Alex Reddick (26no) saw Thorverton home with 2 overs to spare.
