Cornwood NatWest Cricket Force 2010

Cornwood Cricket Club are banking on being a success off the pitch as well as on it this season after a generous donation from NatWest to help them spruce up their new Oak Park pavilion.

The Devon League club have just been beneficiaries of the nationwide 2010 NatWest CricketForce scheme.

CricketForce is an England and Wales Cricket Board volunteering initiative aimed at rejuvenating the nation’s cricketing facilities.

CricketForce encourages cricket supporters, their friends and families to give something back to their local community club by volunteering to undertake major renovations to clubhouses and grounds.

Cornwood batsman and weekend organiser Ben Warren, 25, said: “Because of the on-going work at our new pavilion we had to postpone our CricketForce weekend for a couple of weeks.

“It was a good move because we had glorious weather over the two days and about 25 volunteers in total came out to the ground to help, including a handful of members of staff from NatWest, who also very kindly donated £500 to the club.

“We were able to paint some of the new walls at the pavilion and do a lot of stuff around the ground, including repainting the sight screens, mending fencing and a number of other odd jobs that required attention.

“All-in-all it was a great success – and we couldn’t have done it without the help of NatWest.”

Tanya Retter, senior bank manager for the NatWest Plymouth franchise, was happy to be among the volunteers who visited Oak Park over the weekend.

Retter said: “It was a fantastic day and we were more than happy to contribute our time to help Cornwood Cricket Club.

“It’s important that we are involved in the local community and hopefully our donation of £500 will also go a long way to helping the club this season.”
