Cornwall v Devon

at Mount Hawke C C

Tuckett half century sets up eighth win

This re-scheduled game was played at the delightful setting of Mount Hawke where everyone was made very welcome. Devon skipper Matthew Hickey elected to bat. Openers Luke Tuckett and Lewis Gregory put on 43 in quick time before Gregory was trapped leg before. Hickey and Tuckett advanced the score to 101 before the skipper was run out on the last ball before lunch for 30. With eighteen overs left after lunch Devon needed to put the foot on the accelerator pedal. An unfortunate run out and a couple of soft dismissals didn't help the cause. Tuckett was joined by his South Devon teammate Matthew Thompson and together added 54, Tucket eventually falling for a patient 65 with Thompson finishing undefeated on 30 as Devon posted 187-6, a total that really ought to have been more.

Devon were slow to get into their stride and a couple of interuptions for rain didn't help as Cornwall made steady progress. The spinners were to prove critical as both JJ Debenham and Nathan Bulley bowled their ten overs economically. A superb direct hit by JJ Debenham started to turn things the visitor's way. At 107-3 with 17 overs left though the hosts fancied their chances with opener Williams still there on 50. Skipper Hickey brought himself on to bowl and it proved a master stroke as he dismissed Williams and also picked up the dangerous Thomas. Alex Carr and Toby Ingham returned to pick up two wickets apiece as Devon ran out winners by 23 runs.

Rain gets the better of Devon

After losing the toss Devon were asked to bowl in damp conditions at Callington. Alex Carr picked up one of the openers trapped leg before in a tidy opening spell. Toby Ingham is settling well and bowled a good spell without much luck. Paris Pinney and Nathan Bulley then picked up a wicket apiece before rain finally called a halt to proceedings at 1415 with Cornwall 47-3 in the 20th over. The game has been re-scheduled for Sunday 18th July at Mount Hawk cricket club.
