James's Jaffas Jilts Wilts

For the first match of the season Devon eased their way to a competent and an assured win over Wiltshire at Redlynch & Hale CC by 7 wickets , worthy of a side who made the 2004 National Finals. Deciding to bat Wiltshire where never aload to get away with tight opening bowling from Adam Dibble and Shane Evenden before debutant Ben Robins, ripped out Vince's leg stump and James Burke

bowled  a very impressive spell swinging and seaming the ball at great pace for an under 14. Sam Smith, ever vocal behind the stumps was outstanding, making some excellent diving takes and giving the side extra confidence which resulted in some supurb fielding and great catches both in the slips and outfield. Will Denford snaffled two wickets and Tom Cross bowled with guile. Perhaps Devon should have bowled out Wiltshire out in the early 30s overs for less but for early season this was an excellent start. Wiltshire 142 All Out.

Luke Bess and James Burke put on 27 without any trouble before Bess got out and then Justin Williams helped Burke to put on 33 before he tickled the ball to the keeper. Shane Evenden looked classical before he was caught and bowled bringing Sam Smith to the crease. Brimming with confidence Smith (36NO) set about the Wiltshire attack and with Burke (43NO) who anchored the innings, finished the game off in quick fire fashion in the next 13 overs, hitting one huge six into the watching spectators who had to dive for cover. Devon 145-3 in 41 overs. Devon won by 7 wickets.

Our thanks to the Umpires, Redlynch & Hale CC, Simon, Mike Smith and Alex for the day.
