"Shane Shines as Cornwall Crumble"

Devon's bad luck at winning the toss continued at Troon CC on Sunday when even Vice Captain Adam Dibble couldn't win the toss and Devon were inserted by Cornwall on a damp track. After the early loss of Luke Bess

James Burke (69) and Justin Williams (32) put on 115 for the 2nd wicket

before Devon lost two quick wickets. Shane Evenden and Mark Gilmour after a spendid lunch of home made pasties and strawberries batting to orders, I think not, put on a quick 35 before Adam Dibble (34NO) joined Evenden who by now was impressively slaying the Cornish bowling to all parts putting on 82 in 9 overs. No one was safe and even the seats around the boundary took a pumelling this time due to Dibble! Devon finished on 256-6 off their 50 overs with 124 coming off the last 16 overs.   Devon attacked from the start and Adam Dibble took 2 early wickets one brilliantly caught by Ben Robins but on a pitch which offered little Cornwall's Chadwick (63N0) and Preston put up some resistance. Luke Bess decided to ring the bowling changes in an effort to find a bowler the pitch suited and in the 27th over he brought himself on. The 11th bowler used (playing 12 aside), he quickly accounted for Preston caught and bowled, then had Barretto wonderfully caught by Tom Cross in the slips and then Adam Dibble took a smart chance at short mid on-thanks TB!. Devon's fielding was of a high standard with Harry Stephenson having a good game behind the stumps in Sam Smith's absence and Will Denford nearly caught a superb catch, Waugh like, at mid wicket. Sam Cload took a wicket as did Mark Gilmour before James Burke bowling up the slope at 76MPH, in his new boots, watch those studs, wiped out the last 3 batsmen in 6 balls. Devon won by 132 runs in the 46th over.  Our sincere thanks to Troon CC, the lunch and tea ladies, the umpires and Trevor and Nigel. See you at the Festival.
