"Dorset Destroy Disappointing Devon"

Dorset taught Devon a lesson at West Buckland School, showing them how to play on a slow damp pitch. Deciding to bat Dorset struggled against tight opening bowling, from Shane Evenden & Adam Dibble who went onto get 3--23, who was also outstanding including in the field. After 11 overs Dorset had reached 19-1 in a game littered with indecisive running and  4 run outs.

Luke Bess in his first spell for the County in 2005 took a wicket, Sam Smith diving and taking a brilliant one handed low diving catch. Ben Robins, arrived in time to bowl the dangerous Chris Jones before Bess inspirationally stopped a ball at point and threw almost in one to Smith to cause a run out. Meanwhile Pearse 44 not out, Dorset's man of the match was sensibly accumalating runs and guiding Dorset to 129-8 off their 45 overs.

After a splendid tea, thanks all, there were still  4 wheels on Devon's wagon and at 19-0 off 5 overs Devon where in no trouble- coasting it some Dorset players said. Bess then got out, James Burke followed shortly before Justin Williams and Shane Evenden started to recover the situation. Evenden then departed and Smith 2 balls later. Stephenson and Williams again started the recovery but the running between the wickets was looking shakey and Stephenson was eventually run out! Gilmour then ran Williams out and Dorset sensed a chance of victory. Dibble was out caught off his pad and Gilmour surrendered. By now Devon had only one wheel on their wagon and it was wobbling badly! Will Denford and Tom Cross put on 16 before Cross was wonderfully caught off the meat of the bat by Jones in the gulley and Sam Cload didn't delay the inevitable, soon bowled. Devon all out 96 in 23 overs!!

Many congratualtions to Dorset. See you at the Festival. Our thanks to the parents , Umpires, Mike Denford , Bas the grounds man and West Buckland School.
