County Championship Braunton CC 22nd June 2003
Devon won the toss and batted first on an excellent Braunton pitch. It was good to see James Fraser back involved and he shared an opening partnership of 91 with Josh Bess which set the tone for some aggressive batting. Josh contributed 88 before being LBW and Dan Bowser was 84 not out when rain brought the innings to a premature close at 261 for 2 from 42 overs. Without this intervention Devon seemed certain to post a target in excess of 300.
Unfortunately further rain curtailed Somerset’s reply to 13.3 overs (20 were needed to produce a result) and the points were shared.
