Devon Under 15s v Dorset Under 15s Match Report

                                ECB County Cup (50 Overs)

Sunday 29th June 2003 at Weymouth Cricket Club

A comfortable win for Devon but not without unnecessary late problems.

Dorset won the toss, batted and were soon in all sorts of trouble at 14 for 4.None of the top order were able to cope with a quick and accurate spell from James Fraser who finished his first 5 over spell with 3 for 8 (3 for 0 after 3 overs including a 3 wicket maiden)- outstanding !

Coombs and House were responsible for a mini recovery which took the total to 43 before House was caught in the gully by Josh Bess off Tom Allin. After that wickets fell at frequent intervals and Dorset were all out for 72 in 25.3 overs. This really was an outstanding bowling and fielding performance.

The Devon reply was started confidently by Bess and Bowser and when the first wicket fell at 31 after 9 overs a commanding win seemed likely. A number of batters had other ideas however and an over casual approach allied to a sequence of poor shot selections against the spinners saw Devon reduced to 61 for 6 before eventually getting home by 4 wickets.

Despite being in a seemingly hopeless position Dorset played with admirable spirit and their two spinners Watkins and Coombs posed problems on a pitch responsive to spin.

Dorset 72 all out in 25.3 overs.C Coombs 20.

R Acton 5 0 22 1. J Fraser 7.3 3 16 5, J Porter 5 2 5 0, T Allin 5 1 13 1,  J Raistrick 3 1 15 3.

Devon 74 for 6 in 22.4 overs. D Bowser 22, C Coombs 5 0 15 3.

DEVON WON BY 4 WICKETS.
