Gwent v Devon

at Abergavenny C C

Spinners turn it for Devon

Devon opted to bat first at the lovely Abergavenny ground. The pitch looked a good one having scored only thirteen from the first ten overs and having lost opener Lewis Gregory without scoring things looked a little bleak. Luke Tuckett soon followed and at 27-2 Devon were facing their first batting crisis of the season. It didn't last for long as Matthew Hickey (75) and Henry Parkin (56) added 109 for the 3rd wicket in 23 overs. James Toland (18 no) and Matthew Thompson (13 no) then added 32 from the last three overs to leave Devon 190-5 from their 45 overs.

Gwent set about their chase well scoring at four runs an over. The introduction of spin played a major part as between them Nathan Bulley (3-18), JJ Debenham (2-21) and Miles Lenygon (3-23) bowled 28 overs and took 8-62. James Toland and Alex Carr took a wicket apiece at the end to wrap up the tail and leave Devon victors by 45 runs. Six in a row and the side are developing well as they head towards a Festival at King's in good heart.
