Under 10 Festival

The first inter district under 10’s competition was held at Westward Ho!  It was a lovely spring day, sun shining but chilly in the wind.  Everyone started arriving at 10.30am – I reckon there were 48 children playing and including siblings and parents there were approximately 150 people in attendance. The standard of cricket was exceptional with fine individual performances from players from each district.   In the first matches, East beat the North and the South beat the West.  Then East beat South in the final.  North beat West in the play off for third and fourth. The hospitality given by Bideford CC was excellent and thanks to Andy Davies and his club for the work put in to organise this and for getting the wicket and outfield in top playing condition. Under 10 County Manager Ted Ashman came to watch and used the opportunity to assess players for his squad and he congratulated every player on their contribution. At the end, the four district managers and Ted discussed how well the day had gone and it was decided to have three similar tournaments next year – one on the same date at Westward Ho!, and then East and South Devon have each offered to host one over May half term week and a winner will be decided using a points system. The Bob Whitburn cup, formerly completed for at under 16 level will be awarded to the winners. We have received some good feedback from parents on how well the day was run and how much their children enjoyed it.
