Inter District Under 12s Reports - 30th April 2006

North v West

The North and West kicked off their campaign at West Buckland School - the North's captain Jamie Overton won the toss and confidently decided to bat first. Their innings started badly with Ansell and Stone bowled in successive deliveries from Tancock. North were rocking at 8-2 however a 55 run third wicket partnership by Craig Overton (25) and Curtis (18) was only broken by a brilliant direct hit to run out Overton. The balance of power had now swung to the North and extras kept the scoreboard turning over. Lochead (20) and the Jamie Overton (33) completed a 57 run sixth wicket partnership which looked likely to take the home side past the 200. However the West bowlers stuck to their task restricting their opponents to 173 off their 42 overs with Tancock 4-29 and Olam 2-22 the pick.

The home side showed their determination to win the game outright by setting an attacking field and starting with the Overton twin speedsters. It did not take long for the visitors batting to succumb as the bowlers were rotated in short spells to apply pressure. A procession of batsman came and went and only Steed (11) looked confident. At drinks the score stood at 38-8 and it took only another three overs to finish off the innings with Ansell taking a superb catch at mid wicket off Lausen and Lochead bowled Carr.

East v South

The East inflicted a heavy nine wicket win over the South. Batting first the South were reduced to 74-5 with Craig Eaves (20) and Seamus McKenna (21) offering resistance. They recovered well as their last five wickets put on another 110 with Edward Woolcott (22) and keeper Charlie Stocks (39*) leading the way. Extras contributed 47 but the main destroyer was Merrick Steward who took the remarkable figures of 6-42 off 2.2 overs. The result was never in doubt despite the the home sides Thomas Bath being run out at 22 as keeper Alex Bosomworth (68*) and Matt Golding(71*) put on an undefeated 163 for the second wicket
