Under 15 Reports - Sunday 30th April 2006

West v East - Match Drawn

A well prepared and capable East team outshone the West, with the game eventually abandoned as a draw due to bad light; the West would have done extremely well to have survived the outstanding 11 overs. The match took place on a well presented pitch and outfield with the West choosing to field first and had early success reducing the East to 19-2 but thereafter bowled inaccurately apart from their captain – Tom Cross. Shane Evenden scored an excellent century, well supported by Justin Williams. The final total of 269 was boosted by Dibble and Denford in good cameo roles.

The east fielded and bowled tightly throughout their fielding spell and maintained their positive endeavour led vocally by keeper Sam Smith. Despite a fine start by James Burke and Heather Knight, Burke was caught behind mishitting a hook and skied to short fine leg. Heather Knight fell later trying to push matters along. No other West player was able to dominate the bowling and bad light brought proceedings to a premature end.

Shane Evenden’s was a good innings with many sweetly hit cover drives; he also took a stunning slip catch and won the nomination as the East’s man of the match. An award was not made for the West.

North v South - South won by 6 wickets

A game in which neither side played to its full potential, on winning the toss the North decided to bat but good bowling from Metters and Shergold left the home side in difficulty after 10 overs, they were further reduced to 30-5 as Gilmour and Thomas kept up the pressure. With McEndoo now at the crease he hit 31 off 39 balls, his dismissal playing on to Metters and Clarke was run out a few balls later. Wilson - North and Tremain briefly threatened with a last wicket partnership of 16 when Tremain risked a suicidal single and was run out by 3 yards. The visitors leading bowlers were Metters, Gilmour and Thomas.

The South got off to a bad start losing Sears in the second over but Veale and Gilmour (39) put on 21 for the second wicket. At the loss of Veale the South's captain Gilmour was joined by the South's man of the match Metters and they took the side up to 58 when the skipper was out. Shergold fell 12 runs later and Metters (39*) and Thomas (14*) took their side home with 23 overs to spare. The North committed the cardinal sin in bowling 21 wides with Wilson-North the pick and Kingdom unlucky not to get a wicket.
