The DCB Under 12 Inter District Competition
for the L.Brad Cup
2007 Champions The East

The season started with a low scoring encounter between the West and the North with the highest individual score coming from the bat of the West's Davies who reached 16 before being dismissed. The North batted first and thanks to 44 extras reached 98 in 37.3 overs with Josh Mailing taking 3-11 off six and Michael Cousens 4-9 off eight overs. The home side fell 17 runs short with P.Heard taking 3-14 in his eight overs. Cousens was the West 's man of the match and Jack Popham gaining the North's award.

The East began their inter-district competition with two wins over the South and North. On a low wicket at Newton Abbot, the East's bowling attack started the season in fine form as they reduced the South to 66 all out - six bowlers sharing the wickets between them. In reply, though Felix Stephenson fell for a duck, Sam Cox's unbeaten 21 saw East to twenty points.

There was an altogether tougher contest a week later on a fine, hard batting track at West Buckland School. Though early wickets reduced the North to 4/2, Lawrence May and Paul Heard added a resilient 55 for the third wicket. Jack Dart broke through May's defences on the stroke of drinks, though, and the East brought back their fast bowlers to good effect to prevent the North's middle order from pushing on. A series of strong hits from Paul Penberthy pushed the hosts to 128/9 from their 42 overs. For the visitors, Ollie Hensberg took three wickets to go with two for Charlie Watson and a pair of run outs.

The East lost wickets at unfortunate times throughout their reply, never truly putting the match beyond the North's grip. Watson made 23 from the top of the order, Dart added 25 and both Dylan Penberthy and Sam Loud contributed double figures. With rain looming over Exmoor, man-of-the-match Hensberg struck three powerful blows through and over the offside, taking the East to victory and 19 points - just minutes before the storm set in.
The West won the toss and batted as they visited the South. A third wicket partnership of 108, between Cousens and Stein, proved to be the basis of the final total of 240 and turned the entire game. The South bowlers were unable to break the stand until William Coon trapped Cousens leg before for a well crafted 63. South Man of the Match Jack Tolley (3-30) and Coon (2-24 were the only bowlers treated with respect. To their credit the South stuck to their task and fielded well. In reply the home side got off to a slow but steady start with Tolley (190 and Jack Simmons (12) taking the score to 55-2. However the introduction of spin removed five batmen for 12 runs in the space of 10 overs. Stephens with 3-5 off eight and West's Man of the Match Cousens 3-24 inflicting the damage. The south were eventually bowled out for 87 in the thirty-fourth over.

The West / East game was beaten by the heavy rain with no real optimism to try and rearrange.
