Somerset v Devon

at Millfield

High fives all round for Devon Under 12's

The Under 12's continue on their winning ways with an excellent all round performance at Millfield to defeat fierce rivals Somerset on a faster run rate. After losing the toss Devon were asked to bowl. Alex Carr picked up a wicket in his third over with James Toland keeping things tight at the other end. A half century stand was broken by Miles Lenygon and from then Devon kept a tight rein on things. The other two spinners both picked up a wicket, Nathan Bulley in particular bowling a very tidy spell of 1-20 from 10 overs. Alex Carr came back on to claim four more wickets to claim his five wicket haul for the County. Matthew Thompson produced a very tidy spell behind the stumps which included a stumping. This was probably one of the better bowling and fielding displays with only 14 extras conceded in the forty five overs as Somerset closed on 143-8.

Devon set about their target very positively, with the knowledge that heavy showers were in the area it was imperative that they scored their runs quickly. This they did, scoring at nearly five an over. The loss of three quick wickets stunned them momentarily but opener Lewis Gregory was joined by Will Gater and together they put on 68 for the fourth wicket to leave Devon at 113-4 from 22.1 overs when the rain finally brought a halt to proceedings. After beating both Gloucestershire and Somerset this side should be capable of performing very well in this year's ESCA festival where they are pitched in with Lancashire, Kent, Worcestershire, Hampshire and neighbours Somerset.
