Hampshire (3) An excellent afternoon’s work for the team “on the road” and the areas where particular attention was paid (ie batters running well between the wickets and taking everything on offer) ensured that we got a very competitive total. Although the conditions posed problems to our quicker seamers, the range of variation in the attacking line-up meant skipper Thompson always had someone else to turn to. ALL the fielders were at the top of their game and their performance was of the highest standard. Michael Collinge’s 5-fer brought him Man of the Match, but it was a total team performance and highlighted the importance of “teams within teams”. The openers, the batters at the end of the innings, keeper and spinners……very satisfying for all. Best wishes for the rest of the season to Hampshire who were in the contest for a large part of the 90 overs. Finally, very many thanks to our hosts for their generous and excellent hospitality and for more than alleviating the toll of the long journey upon not only our players but also and particularly all their parents. |
