Wiltshire v Devon at

Redlynch & Hayes CC

Sunday 19th June

Devon once again elected to bat on a baking hot day down in Salisbury. A bright start was halted by a super direct hit which ran Tom Mitcham out, really a needless run out as we were progressing quite well but all credit to the fielder. Alex Brown's bad luck continued when he holed out to mid off. Alex Hill then joined Freddie Gabbitass and for the third time in four matches guided Devon towards a respectable total. He added 82 with Gabbitass. Hill eventuallt fell for 52, his second consecutive half century and Gabbitass for a patient 21. Skipper Bess played his usual bullish innings with a quickfire 30 and Ned Menheneott played well adding useful runs with George Stephenson at the end. Devon ending up on 174-5.

Wiltshire got off to a slow start as Barny Huxtable and George Benton eight overs for just 12 overs. They were backed up well by Will Chapman who took two wickets and Chris Sanders who went for just 5 runs in four overs. Freddie Gabbitass completed a fine individual performance bowling 10 overs and picking up 2-26. Barney Huxtable and Chris Sanders finished off at the end, Huxtable picking up two wickets and Sanders one as Wiltshire finished on 142-9 leaving Devon victors by 32 runs.

Very pleasing to see the improvement from the Berkshire game as bowlers set the correct fields, were backed up the fielders. The performance was complete with an immaculate display of keeping from Cameron Grainger with no byes conceded.
