Devon v Somerset

at Plympton

26th June 2005

Devon elected to bowl first and it proved the right decision. Somerset never came to terms with the low bounce and the Devon bowlers exploited the pitch fully bowling straight and full to let the pitch do the rest.

Of the ten wickets taken five were bowled and four lbw. All as a consequence of playing on the back foot and across the line. All of the bowlers played their part. Becky Donohue picked up 3-18, Zak Bess followed up with 2-10 and Chris Sanders 2-8. There was also a wicket apiece for Ned Menheneott and George Benton.

Devon's batsmen with the benefit of seeing how the pitch played adjusted their game appropriately. An opening stand of 52 in 20 overs between Tom Mitcham (35) and Freddie Gabbitass together with a stand of 37 between Alex Brown (13no) and George Stephenson (21no) saw Devon home by 8 wickets with 17 overs to spare.
