ECB County Cup

DEVON 167- 8 in 50 overs (F Gabbitass 37, C Grainger 26 not out, G Stephenson 24, Z Bess 23)

DORSET 151-7 in 50 overs (R Skinner 10-2-16-1, C Bryan 8-1-29-2, W Matthewman 7-1-19-2, B Huxtable 10-1-49-1, D Winsor 5-2-18-0, F Gabbitass 10-2-18-1)

DEVON WON BY 16 RUNS

Devon lost the toss and were asked to bat first in bowler-friendly conditions that saw them in difficulties at 23-2 before Bess and Stephenson staged something of a recovery, taking the score to 62 before Bess was caught. Two further important stands of 45 (Gabbitass and DeFriend) and 34 (Gabbitass and Grainger) enabled Devon to reach 167 in their allotted overs.

In reply Dorset found runs hard to come by and were 90-6 after 41 overs before some very effective batting by Chalk (35) and Taylor (30 not out) enabled them to reach 151. In truth, the bowling figures were somewhat flattering as  there were too many short deliveries on a damp pitch. A pleasing aspect was the keen and aggressive fielding that ensured that Dorset were unable to threaten the Devon total.
