GWENT  223 for 8 in 50 overs (R Skinner 7-1-19-2, J Hughes 10-0-47-2, C Bryan 10-2-33-1, W Matthewman 10-2-22-1, C Eaves 5-0-26-1).

DEVON  188 all out  in  48.3 overs (S DeFriend 58, C Overton 43).

GWENT WON BY 36 RUNS

With six regular players absent for various reasons this game afforded the opportunity for others to stake a claim for selection in the forthcoming ECB competitions. Craig Overton and Craig Eaves from the U14 squad were also in the side. Gwent won the toss and posted a demanding total of 223 for eight in their allotted overs, the outstanding contribution coming from Burkitt with an excellent and aggressive 82. Bearing in mind the big score Will Matthewman, in his second county game, finished with the commendable figures of 1-22 in 10 overs. In reply Devon scored quite freely but lost wickets at regular intervals. Sam DeFriend (58) and Craig Overton (43) played  significant  and attractive innings but there  was insufficient support  to seriously threaten the Gwent total. This was the first time a county U15 game had been played at Ipplepen and it is pleasing to record that we were made very welcome and provided with a good pitch which enabled a good contest between bat and ball.
