YORKSHIRE WON BY 2 WICKETS

Having won the toss and chosen to bat Devon lost early wickets and were reduced to 73 for six in 28 overs. However, an excellent  seventh wicket partnership of 73 between Steward and Bryan repaired the damage, and this was followed by an equally good effort by Steward and Eaves who took the final total to 224. The innings by Will Steward (112no) was really outstanding, particularly when Devon’s earlier position is taken into account.

During the break between innings it seemed that Devon had every chance of winning the game. In the event Yorkshire were allowed to reach 50 for the loss of the first wicket and at one stage were a comfortable 192 for four before a good late spell from Eaves reduced them to 218 for eight. In the event this was not quite enough and Yorkshire reached the required total with seven balls left.

The most disappointing aspect of the Devon performance was a poor fielding display compared to previous games. If this had been better it is likely that victory would have been achieved.
