Report on South Devon Under12’s v West Devon Under 12’s

At Ipplepen 25.5.03

West Devon Captain Jack Dent won the toss and put the South in on a damp pitch and was rewarded with a wicket in the second over when J.Durrant hit a catch to Harry Stephenson off the skipper’s bowling. R.Shergold followed soon after bowled by an in-swinging yorker from Dent leaving the South 15-2. R.Marsden and O.Thomas put on 19 before Thomas was plumb in-front to the bowling of Sam Cload. 10 runs later M.Gilmour skied a high catch that keeper Alex Jeffery held comfortably giving Cload the impressive figures of 2-9 off 4 overs. Opener R.Marsden was next to go for 16 bowled by Ben Robins. In Robins 3 rd over he took 3 wickets (2 bowled, 1 caught and bowled) and finished his very fine spell of medium fast bowling with figures of 4-11. From 64-8 the South did well to recover to 131 at the end of their 40 overs thanks mainly to a fine knock from J.Heath who hit a quick fire 15.

The West’s reply was built around a very mature innings from opener Heather Knight who batted for 24 overs to score 28 and see her side to 112-6.Earlier Alex Jeffery hit a sparkling 18 including 4 fours driven beautifully through the covers. Liam Dawson came in when the score was 84-5 and was out when the scores were level. He scored 13 and made sure that a mini collapse did not end up turning in to a big one. His running between the wickets was very impressive and kept the scoreboard ticking over against some tight bowling.

So and fine win for the West by 3 wickets and 7 overs to spare on a difficult pitch was a good reward for an excellent team effort.

South’s man of the match was J Heath (15n/o & 1-7)

West’s man of the match was Ben Robins (4-16)
