Under 13s

West Devon Under 13s v North Devon Under 13s

Having won the toss the West chose to bat on a clear but blustery day. Disaster struck in the 1st over when captain Duncan Hefford hit a full toss straight to Gareth Tidball at mid off who took a good catch. Marc Webber soon followed bowled by J. Kalsi. Jack Sleep and James Fletcher put on 22 in 9 overs before Sleep was bowled for 9. Fletcher and Matt Gregory put on 11 until Fletcher was plumb in front for 14. Jack Thomas cracked 10 in 5 balls but only Nick Murray showed any resistance from the lower order against good tight bowling from Tidball and Witttram leaving the West all out for 100 in the 32 over.

14 wides in the North’s first 4 overs set the tone for a very poor bowling performance where only David Willacy managed not to bowl a wide. A final figure of 34 wides meant that the North were never in any trouble and they romped home with more than 17 overs to spare.

South Devon Under 13s v East Devon Under 13s

The first game has come and gone, finally spoiled by the weather. We would have backed the east to win had the game finished.

East Devon lost the toss and were invited to bat first on a very wet wicket. Despite the loss of James Parkin early on, Ollie Pyne & Joe Webb took the score to 45 off the first 15 overs before Pyne was caught trying to move the score along. Webb was out soon afterwards, and after useful knocks of 22 from Elliot Acton, & 26 from Robbie Debenham, there was a middle order collapse when five wickets went down for 12 runs (Tom Booker, Scott Boardman & Andy Buzza all having very short stays at the crease).

It then fell to James Harris & Simon Ashplant to try and bat out the last 20 overs to get the score from 112 for 7 to a competitive minimum of 150. East were eventually all out with 4 overs to go when last man Lyndon Chatting Walters was bowled. The total reached was 151.

When the South batted they found it difficult to score runs from the bowling attack. Acton (nominated Man of the Match by the South coach) completed a good day’s work with 1-9 from 4 overs. James Harris bowled exceptionally taking 2-1 from 4 overs to go with his 11 runs when batting. Scott Boardman & Andy Buzza also bowled tightly. The South reached 31-3 when the rain came and dashed hopes of victory for the east.

The east is still on course to retain their trophy if they can win their last two games.
