Portman Under 15 Reports (2)

Filleigh completed a comprehensive home win against Bideford. It was built around a second wicket partnership of 100 between Seb Le Barth (49*) and James Marsh who was run out on 49. Bideford never looked like reaching the target apart from a brief rally led by Luke Kerr (26). Jas Kalsi with 4-19 was the pick oh the home team bowlers. Bovey Tracey scored five runs more than their opponents Ipplepen as both sides scored over a hundred in their twenty overs. Bovey batted first with opener Patrick Hambly hitting 59 before getting run out. Matthew Layfield and Chris Harper both reached double figures as Bovey were 119-6 at the conclusion of their innings with Adam Peters the pick of the bowlers taking 3-10. Ipplepen openers Marsdon (30) and Lock (37) put on 71 but the remaining batsmen struggled against Matthew Layfield who took 3-25 as Ipplepen ended on 114-6.

In a match that eventually got under way at 1850 Torquay opted to bat first. After the loss of a couple of early wickets, Micky Wilkinson (39) and S Franklind 17 added 50 for the third wicket. Skipper James Carr opted for spin from one end as first he bowled four tidy overs and then leg spinner Charles Martin took over to reduce the visitors to 88-8 from 73-2 as he took 5-14 including a hat trick. The early loss of opener Richard Garland did not seem to affect the Mount Wise batsmen as they all played their shots in the gathering gloom. Charles Martin top scored with an unbeaten 36 to complete a fine individual performance as Mount Wise eased into the semi finals by 7 wickets.

In a high scoring affair Bradninch went through by 16 runs against Hatherleigh. Bradninch batted first and their final total of 128 revolved around a third wicket partnership of 58 between former Devon girls captain Ashbee (20) and Raybould who top scored with 35. Elliott Acton, who has just made his debut for the Devon under 13s, scored an undefeated 18. Extras contributed a useful 36 in their final total. Hatherleigh enjoyed a second wicket partnership of 70 between Lake (17) and Gillespie but the run out of Gillespie on 46 was critical as they fell just short. Another key to Bradninch's win was that they conceded only 15 extras. They now face Sandford who received a walkover. Mount Wise are through to the final and will play either Sidmouth, Filleigh or Bradninch who comprehensively defeated Sandford.
