U15 DIVISION

SHALDON, Brixham and Harberton all batted second in their first games of the season, and picked up comparatively straightforward victories.

The most challenging target was that set by Bovey Tracey against Shaldon.

Jake Baughan (40ret) and Ed Woolcott (34) helped Bovey post what looked like a respectable score of 122 for four.

It proved to be not enough however, and Shaldon raced to an impressive victory with some seven overs to spare, Will Farley (40ret) and Seamus McKenna (41ret) provided the platform for Ryan Hanauer (22no) to complete a job well done for Shaldon.

Harberton and Brixham went joint top of the table following victories against Kingsbridge and Barton respectively.

Harberton overhauled Kingsbridge's total of 72 all out with six wickets and seven overs in hand, Christian Buckner contributing an undefeated 31 and thrree wickets.

Chris Newson and Hugo Whitlock both grabbed wickets for Harberton. Brixham had no problems bettering Barton's total of 59 all out, although they did lose four wickets in the process, three of them to Tom Drake.

It was a game where batsmen were never in control, underlined by the fine efforts of the Brixham bowlers. Ryan Shepherd had figures of three for six while Craig Eaves and Matt Parsons claimed two apiece.

Under-13s Pietersen

THERE were easy wins for Kingskerswell and Shaldon in the U13 Pietersen Division.

Shaldon dispatched Harberton by 77 runs, Jack Gallagher (31 ret) and Dan Woolnough (29no) the main contributors to a total of 105 for four. Harberton were promptly dismissed for a mere 28 runs, although it did take 18 overs to for Shaldon to do it, Danny McKenna picking up three wickets for Shaldon.

In a reduced-overs game, Kingskerswell beat Chudleigh by nine wickets. Despite Ben Holmes' unbeaten 32, Chudleigh's total of 70 for seven always looked insecure. Sure enough, Kerswell were untroubled, reaching their target inside 10 overs. Sam Hancox (18no) and Seb Powell (17no) were the batsmen who steered their side home.

Under 11s

KINGSKERSWELL Under-11s got their season off to a flying start with a 56-run defeat of Brixham.

Harrison Yeates and Dom Passmore both retired on 25 as Kerswell posted a solid total of 100 for three.

It proved more than enough as Brixham were bowled out for 44 with five overs to spare. Wickets fell regularly and, as a result, no Brixham batsman was allowed to get into double figures.

The chief wicket takers for the home side were Zak Powell (4-7) and Will Hancox (3-10). Yeates chipped in with two of his own as well. Kingskerswell's second game didn't quite go according to plan, and they were unable to follow up with another victory against Barton, who won by three wickets.

Kerswell again batted first, scoring 68 all out, the main run maker on this occasion being Charlie Mitchell (28no). Jack Bodley and Jordan Hunt shared four wickets between them in the Barton cause.

Bodley (13) and opener James Thompson (25ret) who got the chase off on the right footing for Barton, but it was a tight affair in the end, a flurry of late run-outs threatening to derail Barton's efforts.

Victory came of the last ball of the game with a scampered single, although Kingskerswell gained enough points to give them an early lead at the top of the table.
