UNDER-17 STRAUSS

BRIXHAM won for the second time this season when they triumphed by nine wickets against Dartington & Totnes to storm ahead at the top of the U-17 Strauss division.

Apart from Ryan Stevenson, who scored an unbeaten half-century, no other Dartington batsman got into their stride and the home side finished all out for 87.

Craig Eaves, Ryan Shepherd, Adam Edwards and Josh Newman all grabbed two wickets apiece for Brixham. Will Matthewman (22) and Dan Clarke (37no) then established the platform for victory, which was duly achieved by Brixham with four overs to spare.

Brixham have a commanding lead of 32 points over Chudleigh in second place.

In the Cook division, there were wins for Stoke Gabriel and Kingsbridge with some fine individual performances with bat and ball.

Ben Stone (52no) starred for Stoke in their 74-run win over Harberton as his side reached 124 for two in their 20 overs.

Dominic Horn then took four for 10 to help bowl Harberton out for 50. Stone (46no) was again in fine form against Kingsbridge, but this time ended up on the losing side as the South Hams outfit ran out winners by four wickets. Stoke again posted a 120-plus score, but Kingsbridge were equal to the task, chasing the runs down with two balls to spare with Joe Buckle undefeated on 39.

   UNDER-15 COLLINGWOOD

BRIXHAM beat Harberton by five wickets to pick up their second win of the season, but lost top spot to Harberton who also gained a 28-run win over rivals Paignton A.

Harberton scored a respectable 88 for six against Brixham, thanks mainly to the efforts of Christian Buckner (32) and Chris Newson (24). Brixham's openers Craig Eaves (42no) and Jean-Pierre Simonetti (21) put their side firmly on course.

Despite a late flurry of wickets, Harberton cruised home in the 18 th over. Josh Newman took two wickets for Brixham whilst Buckner achieved the same feat for Harberton.

Harberton scored 112 for six against Paignton, Ben Oakey leading the way on 32.

In reply, Paignton started well with Barney Allen (18) and Ollie Higgs (20) providing useful contributions. But then they fell behind the required rate and struggled thereafter.

Much of the credit for stopping Paignton in their tracks goes to Matt Hodgson (4-22) and Buckner (3-9).

Elsewhere, Ipplepen inflicted a convincing defeat on Torquay, winning by 92 runs after posting a score of 195 for two. Charlie Stocks (54no), Joe Abbot (52no) and Jack Lewis (42) all enjoyed themselves with the bat.

Torquay made a credible effort in reply, Mawgan Penrice (24) and Phil Reddaway (26) having a go at the Ipplepen bowlers, but ultimately fell well short of the target.

   UNDER-15 BELL

STOKE Gabriel consolidated their position at the top of the Bell division by securing their second win of the season, a comfortable nine-wicket victory over Abbotskerswell.

Aaron Stevenson bagged three wickets and Jack Tolley two as the Abbots were skittled out for 53.

Openers Andy Ball and Fergus Barratt were largely untroubled for Stoke as they set up the win in the 11 th over for the loss of just one wicket, Andy Ball falling victim to Alex Birt.

Chudleigh and Paignton B both got their seasons off to a winning start, Chudleigh beating South Devon by 17 runs whilst Paignton B beat Dartington by nine wickets.

Matt Heather top scored for Chudleigh in their total of 104 for eight, assisted by Shaun Newland on 25. It may well have been a lot more but for the efforts of James Hart who claimed four wickets for South Devon.

Jonty Parsons then scored an unbeaten half-century for South Devon, but he was a lone figure as none of his fellow batsmen managed to get into double figures and they finished 17 runs adrift of the Chudleigh total.

Paignton B skittled Dartington out for 41, Aaron Williams taking four wickets whilst Mike Meech and Callum Stanley shared another four between them.

It took Paignton just eight overs to knock off the runs and secure a maximum- points win.

Elsewhere, Dartington beat South Devon by 41 runs, all-rounder Max Snowdon scoring 30 with the bat and taking two for 13 with the ball.

   UNDER-13 FLINTOFF

KINGSBRIDGE beat Ipplepen by 55 runs to notch their second win of the season and leapfrog Bovey into top spot.

Stuart Townsend retired on 30 and opener Callum Tollins chipped in with 17 as the South Hams outfit posted a first innings score of 98 for eight.

The Ipplepen reply was in trouble right from the off and at 19 for six, a whitewash was on the cards until Tom Crocker (15no) steadied the ship, guiding the Pens to a more respectable 43 for eight.

Kingsbridge shared the wickets around, no fewer than six bowlers taking a scalp; for Ipplepen, Matt Clenahan took three wickets and Harry Lewis two.

Barton got their season off to a winning start by defeating Dartington by nine wickets, gaining maximum points in the process.

Matt Wreford took four for 23 and Jamie Peters three wickets for one run as Dartington were bowled out for 50.

Barton were not troubled in reaching their target, losing just one wicket although they took their time, crossing the finishing line in the 17 th over. Peters scored an unbeaten 30 for Barton.

A few days prior to the defeat at Barton, Dartington won by 17 runs against Brixham. All-rounder Jonathan Colegate scored an unbeaten 33 and took two wickets as the Darts bowled Brixham out for 75 chasing 93 for victory. Sam Jerome took three wickets in the Dartington cause.

   UNDER 13 PIETERSEN

LEADERS Kingskerswell came unstuck when Harberton were the visitors, Joe Snoxall taking five wickets as Kerswell were bowled out for 53 with three overs to spare.

For once, none of the home batsmen got into double figures as wickets fell regularly and Kerswell were reduced to 11 for six at one stage.

Tail-enders Charlie Mitchell (8) and Connor Adams (9) staved off a complete collapse.

Matt Hodgson (24) led the Harberton reply and although he was eventually snared by Mellor, Harberton passed the required target with seven overs to spare.

Harberton now occupy second spot behind Kingskerswell with a game in hand.

Elsewhere, Bovey Tracey B won their first game of the season by defeating Paignton B by 35 runs. Will Simmons (30ret) and Ben Steer (27) starred with the bat for Bovey whilst Harry Hicks and Oliver Goodman picked up two wickets apiece as Paignton were restricted to 66 for nine chasing a target of 102 for victory.

   UNDER-11 BROAD

KINGSKERSWELL moved back into top spot following a maximum-points win at Kingsbridge.

The victory was achieved in convincing style, as the early championship contenders bowled the South Hams side out for 41, Will Hancox doing most damage with four for seven in his two overs.

Kerswell barely drew breath in reaching the required target in the eighth over. Despite losing two wickets, Charlie Mitchell and Harrison Yeates were there to ensure there were no slip-ups.

Elsewhere, Bovey Tracey inflicted a first defeat on Torquay, although Torquay gained enough points to remain handily placed in second place, just two behind the leaders.

After a good start in which Will Lammonby (20) helped get the score up to 55 for four, the Bovey innings fell away and they finished on 76 all out.

Bovey's lower order fell victim to Torquay's potent bowling attack of Ben Francis and Neal Osborne, who claimed six wickets between them. Francis (26 ret) spearheaded the Torquay chase, and at 68 for seven his side must have scented victory. It was not to be however and Torquay ended agonisingly short by six runs.

The win puts Bovey into third position with a game in hand on the two teams above the. Another team aiming for the top are Ipplepen, who beat Brixham by 14 runs.

Gabriel Quinlan (28ret) and Liam Price (26ret) were the main run scorers as the Pens notched up a very respectable 95 for three. Despite an unbeaten 28 by Josh Newman, the rest of the Brixham line-up failed to deliver, and despite a generous ration of extras (33) from the Ipplepen bowlers, the result never seemed to be in doubt.
