UNDER 11s

PAIGNTON beat Barton by 49 runs to claim their second victory of the season and move into third place in the U11 division.

Batting first and at home, the Queen's Park side posted a first-innings score of 110 for four, thanks in large part to their top-order batsmen Toby Codd, Noah Wright and Harry Ward who all scored in the 20s.

Barton started their reply with steady purpose but lost both openers James Thompson and Nathan Aiston when they were just starting to get going. Thereafter, apart from Jack Bodley who weighed in with a useful 15, the middle and lower order offered little resistance as Barton were all out for 61.

Paignton shared the wickets around with a varied bowling attack that resulted in no fewer than seven bowlers claiming at least one wicket, but the pick of these was Harry Andrews, who finished with figures of three for three.

Elsewhere, Shaldon gained their first win of the season with an 86-run defeat of Stoke Gabriel. Shaldon scored a pleasing total of 112 for 7, the major contributions coming from Dan Woolnough (28 ret) and Joe Wilcox (21).

They needn't have worried whether it was going to be enough as Stoke were quickly reduced to 26 for eight.

Langley, Woolnough and Butterfield all claimed two wickets apiece for Shaldon whilst Stacey claimed two for the Stoke cause.

UNDER-13 FLINTOFF

THERE were comfortable wins for both Paignton and Ipplepen in the Flintoff division, boosting each side's chances of a top-half finish.

Paignton made light work of beating Torquay, running out winners by 10 wickets. Phil Reddaway (17) and Gareth Penrice (15) got Torquay up and running, but a total collapse meant they only reached 60 for nine by the close.

Jordan Burnett claimed three wickets for Paignton, while Ben Massey and Matt Bessant shared another four.

Openers Pete Taylor (25no) and Ben Brown (28no) were untroubled as they reached their target inside 10 overs.

Elsewhere Ipplepen beat Barton by 62 runs, Jacob Chisholm and Matt Clenahan both getting into the 20s for the Pens as they posted a total of 95 for three.

Lots of Barton batsmen got starts but none made it into double figures as wickets fell regularly and they were eventually bowled out for 33. Pick of the bowlers for Ipplepen were Joe Fath (3-6) and Jack Guilfoyle (2-4).

U15

PAIGNTON collected their first victory of the season, and consigned Barton to their third loss in a row, when the two sides met at Cricketfield Road.

Paignton batted first, and despite the loss of early wickets and an ineffective tail, managed to reach 82 all out in the 18th over.

If it hadn't been for Jordan Burnett's contribution of 37, things could have been a lot worse.

James Peters bagged four wickets for Barton, whilst Tom Drake chipped in with two.

Barton must have fancied their chances of chasing down the total but had reckoned without a bowling masterclass from George Yates.

Yates decimated the opposition batting line up to claim eight wickets, a feat which will have league officials delving into the archives to see whether it is a record or not.

Yates only gave away two runs on his way to this remarkable achievement, and Barton were bowled out for 42 in the 16h over.

Paignton move up to third in the league full of confidence for the games ahead.

U17

TORQUAY got their season off on the right footing with an accomplished 36-run victory over neighbours Barton at the Recreation Ground.

Put into bat on a glorious evening, Torquay began tentatively before getting fully into their stride.

Skipper Matt Thompson (47) and Mawgan Penrice (22) put on 39 for the first wicket, when the in-form Josh Hunt was able to join the fray.

Hunt set about business in a determined fashion, ending unbeaten on 32, while Thompson was caught brilliantly by Nathan Beech at long off just short of his half century.

Torquay ended on a respectable 126 for three, a score which at the time seemed possibly inadequate. Torquay need not have worried though as they proceeded to bowl and field well, dismissing the top three Barton batsmen early to put the brakes on.

When Tom Mason dismissed Sean Adderley before he could open up, it looked like a Torquay victory all the way. Late resistance from Beech (17no) and James Hands (22no) gave an element of respectability to the reply.

Newcomer James Gibbs claimed two wickets for Torquay.

Paignton were also in action, beating Shaldon by 18 runs to claim their first victory of the season and move into second place. Josh Fitton and Connor Bryan both hit unbeaten half-centuries as Paignton reached 148 for four by the close, Carl Woolnough taking all four wickets for Shaldon.

Bryan bowled opener Scott Baxter for a duck, but Shaldon made better progress through Todd Ballman (40), Woolnough (31 not out) and Will Moore (25). Shaldon eventually reached 130 for six, a fine effort but sadly not quite close enough to get a result.

George Benton and Ollie Higgs shared four wickets between them.
