2009 Ivor Dewdney Plymouth 20's Tournament Preview
This week sees the return of the highly successful Ivor Dewdney Plymouth 20's tournament. Recent times have seen Twenty20 cricket explode over the globe and there will be no exception in the Plymouth area over the coming weeks. The tournament returns for a fourth season and sees the inclusion of Roborough CC. They join last year's entrants Plymouth CC, Plympton CC, Plymstock CC, Cornwood CC and Plymouth Civil Service CC who will be competing for the title. The teams will be split into two groups with the top two teams competing in the semi finals and the bottom teams going into a separate plate competition. The winners of the semi finals will play out the finals at Cornwood Cricket Club on Friday 3rd July. The Plymouth champions have then received a bye into the Devon regional finals event, this season held at Sanford on Sunday 31st August. Principal tournament sponsors Ivor Dewdney have added to the excitement by putting up some prize money for the winners. The tournament kicks off with a repeat of last year's final as 2008 champions Plympton take on double finalist Plymstock at Harewood House.
Supporters are encouraged to attend this seasons twenty20 matches as clubs look to lay on all the usual razzmatazz. Coloured kits, white cricket balls, music, BBQ's, fully licensed bars and other attractions are the order of the day.
