Plymstock got off to a slow start and were always behind the required run-rate. A good stand of 52 for the 4th wicket between M. Saunders (38) and O. White (13) left Plymstock needing 42 from the last 4 overs. Tight bowling from Tom Hall (2-14) and Huxtable (2-11) meant Ivybridge won a very entertaining game by 28 runs.

22/06/09

Lewdown 85 all out (S. Ewen 30, G. Southcott 3-19, Pavi Mawalage 3-22)

Plymouth Peverell 74 for 9 (H. Barnes 18, S. Ewen 3-10, T. Boother 2-12, B. Williams 2-13)

Lewdown beat Plymouth Peverell by 19 runs
Two strong sides played out a great game of cricket and although a good batting track, high quality bowling from both sides dominated the game. Winning the toss, Plymouth Peverell bowled well from the off with Pasi Mawalage knocking out Lewdown run machine Will Hodgetts (4) in the first over. Lewdown progressed well to 23 before a fantastic one stump direct hit from point saw Fogerty stranded well out of his ground. Clearly rattled, a mix up ended with Ewen and Penrose at the same end with the ball in the fielder’s hand and despite the ball going to the wrong end, it was Penrose (1) who had to go. At 34 for 3, Boother and Ewen built well with Ewen, hitting some sweetly timed drives before an attempted pull saw him caught at mid-wicket for a solid 30. Jack Hatton and Boother both made 15 but the pressure of high quality bowling told and when they were both seen off by the Pasi and Pavi Mawalage combination, Lewdown were quickly finished for a total of 85. Plymouth Peverell could have been forgiven that they had done enough with the ball combined with confident fielding and catching and indeed looked to be coping well with the opening bowling of Fogerty and Williams, reaching 19 with no alarm bells ringing. Williams however was working up some genuine accurate pace, which ripped out the stumps of Attis and the Pasi in a fine spell of bowling. Whilst not taking a wicket, Fogerty was building steady pressure, joining the dots at the other end. Giving away only 28 runs from the first 8 overs and 2 wickets in the bag, Plymouth looked relieved to see the change bowling come on. Nothing was to change though and Thomas Boother and Jack Hatton continued where the openers had left off, Boother taking 2 wickets in 3 overs including a workman like 17 from Mattews. Hatton bowled with economy giving away only 16 runs from his allotted 4 overs. Ewen brought himself on and showed much improved control to rip out the middle order in his spell of 3 overs, 0 maidens 3 wickets for 10 runs. Penrose contributed 1 over with his usual laser-like accuracy and Boother held his nerve to finish off another fine spell which left Plymouth 19 runs short of the required total.
Both sides showed fine skills and in a match that could have gone either way and should be pleased with their performances, particularly all of the bowlers. Pasi was the pick of the Plymouth Peverell fielders and Jamie Everard stood out in the field for Lewdown with many run-saving stops.

23/06/09

Tideford Eagles 169 for 4 (B. Kitt-Osborne 55, M. Worden 43, J.Mailing 2 for 35).
Ivybridge 122 for 3 (J. Mailling 49*, H. Solomon*,
R. Court 2 for 22, T. Carter 1 for 20).
Tideford Eagles beat Ivybridge by 47 runs
On a perfect summer evening Tideford skipper Matt Worden won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first. Worden and Dan Snowdon got the Tideford innings off to a flyer and Tideford were 73 off 8 overs before Snowdon was well caught by W. Fricker for 23. Worden and Ben Kitt Osborne then continued the run feast hitting 43 and 55 respectively and with good support from Dan Casey and Tom Carter the innings closed on 169 for 4.
In reply the Ivybridge innings got off to a mixed start with
Richard Court picking up the wickets of Fricker and A. Huxtable and then taking a superb one handed catch to remove N. Lancaster. That was the last success Tideford had with the ball as Harry Solomon and Josh Mailling scored 32 and 49 not out respectively to put together an excellent unbeaten fourth wicket partnership. The Ivybridge innings ended on 122 for 3. Apart from Court the pick of the Tideford bowlers were Tom and Ben Carter.

Plymouth Peverell 87 for 6 (H. Barnes 42, C. Attis 13, H. Solomon 1-12, A. Statton 1-16)

Ivybridge 49 for 9 (C. McGrath 25, C. Attis 3-13, W. Matthews 2-19, J. Varcoe 2-6)

Plymouth Peverell beat Ivybridge by 28 runs

Ivybridge won toss and elected to bowl on a damp and slow Peverell pitch. The Ivybridge bowlers maintained their discipline bowling a tight line and length supported by some good fielding which restricted Plymouth Peverell to 87 - 6 in their allotted overs. Harry Barnes top scored with a patient 42.

It looked a small total to defend and was made all the more difficult due to the fact that Peverell entered the field with only eight players. Ivybridge started with a flourish but Peverell remained patient and the opening stand was broken by a smart caught and bowled by Charles Attis. Due to a combination of tight bowling and the slow pitch, wickets fell at regular intervals with the last man going in the 15th over with the score on 59.

Pick of the Peverell bowlers was Charles Attis (4 - 0 - 13 – 3) which enabled Peverell to seize the victory by 28 runs. C. Mcgrath batted well for Ivybridge scoring 25 of his side’s total.

Tideford Eagles 129 for 6 (D. Snowdon 44, E. Staddon 2-21, L. Richardson 2-4)

Cornwood 130 for 3 (E. Staddon 53, R. Rickard 51, D. Snowdon 2-19, O. Demaine 1-18)

Cornwood beat Tideford Eagles by 7 wkts

Batting first, Tideford started well and with M. Worden and D. Snowdon in fine form, put on 61 in the first 10 overs before Elliot Staddon bowled Worden for 15. Snowdon continued to stroke the ball around and was 5th out for an excellent 44 with the score on 127. The Tideford innings closing on 129-6, with Luke Richardson claiming 2 wickets for 4 runs.

In reply, the Tideford bowlers found the Cornwood openers of Staddon and Ryan Rickard in top form putting on 106 for the first wicket before Staddon was caught by Snowdon off the bowling of O. Demaine for 53. Rickard carried on to reach his 50 but then proceeded to hit one straight to J. Smith at mid-on. Cornwood reached their target with 4 overs remaining and won by 7 wickets.

D. Snowdon capped a fine individual game for Tideford, claiming 2 wickets for 19 runs.

Tideford Hawks 3 for 7 (K. Wellington 1*, Pavi Mawalage 4-1, J. Hancock 2-0)

Plymouth Peverell beat Tideford Hawks by 169 runs

Plymouth Peverell made it three wins for the week when they played Tideford Hawks at Mount Wise on 23.07.09. Plymouth Peverell won the toss and decided to bat against Tideford who only had eight players. But Tideford bowled straight and fielded well to restrict Plymouth to 172- 7 in their allotted overs. Will Matthews top scored for Peverell with a smooth 42 before he was unluckily run out with a direct hit from close to the boundary. Pick of the Tideford bowlers were Kyran Watts (4 - 0 - 33 – 2) and Ollie Lindfield (4 - 0- 28 – 2).

Peverell took the field and bowled and fielded aggressively from the start but even they could not have dreamt that the Tideford innings would have ended in 4.1 overs but that is what happened with Tideford all out for 3. The only Peverell bowlers were Jordan Hancock (2- 2 - 0 – 2) and Pavi Mawalage (2.1 - 1 - 1 – 4), giving Peverell a win by 169 runs.
