After the hard week at the Taunton Festival, rested, well some where, the u14s played Gloucestershire again but this time in their ECB CC match at Bovey Tracey. With showers forecast and rain later and the pitch having been played on at the weekend the toss was vital. Gloucestershire won it and asked Devon to bat!

Freddie Filor and Dan Pyle opened and relatively unalarmed the score proceeded to 29 in the 9th over when Freddie played down the wrong line and is bowled. Enter local boy Ben Steer who 3 overs later plays at and then follows a ball that did move and was brilliantly caught at first slip by Callum Loud. 33-2. Pyle and Green then put on 96 in 19 overs with Pyle reaching his maiden County 50, soon after which Green who has been in terrific form with the bat all season and untroubled, is LBW to one that shot for 49. Next over, Pyle rather unnecessarily, an under statement, in the cirumstances, is stumped for 53! Instead of consolidating and rebuilding Will Thompson is then caught and next over Charlie Fitzroy gets one that pops and he is caught too. There is a slight rest bite until in the 40th over Charlie Barriball is caught shortly followed by Jamie Telford being bowled hitting across the line and it is 160-8! 7 wickets have fallen for 31 runs!  220 plus had been on the cards and would, if Devon had batted sensibly, have been out of sight at Bovey. Dan Wolf and Dan Goodey, who batted the best he has all season, playing and hitting straight, exactly what was needed, took the score throught to 181 about par on this track in Devon's 45 overs.

After a splendid tea, thank you Mrs Coish, local buy two, Bradley Causey and Dan Pyle who have opened effective previously are given the new ball but it is not until the 7th over when Causey makes the break through caught & bowling Waters. Four overs later the other local boy Ben Steer takes a wicket third ball removing Gloucester's captain Slade. He makes it two in the 15th over when  Wolfy take a great reaction catch at short mid wicket making it 47-3. Dan Goodey has bowled without any sucess and so Coddy brings himself on. After 3 overs he takes the first of his 4 wickets in quick sucession reducing Gloucestershire to 83-7 in the 28th over. Ben Green's off spin make it 92-8 and Dan Goodey returned and quickly takes two wickets and Gloucestershire are all out 109, Devon winning by 72 runs. An important win in the context of the ECB CC league.

Our thanks to Bovey Tracey CC, David Moseby and Phil Mallett umpires, Wendy our scorer and all the parents and relatives of their support once more.
