Woodman ton sees Devon to victory

ROB Woodman hit an unbeaten ton as Devon beat Bedfordshire by six wickets in the ‘dead’ Minor Counties Trophy game at Dunstable.
Cornwall and Hertfordshire already had the top-two places wrapped up so there was nothing riding on the game..
Bedfordshire totalled 218 for nine in their 50 overs with Grant Thurstance top scoring on 59.
Thurstance dug Bedfordshire out of a hole after they had slipped to 58 for three inside 11 overs – Matt Kidd picking up two wickets and Mark Orchard the third.
Andy Reynoldson (53) put on 103 for the fourth wicket with Thurstance, who finally departed to a Matt Golding run-out.
Only Alex Walker (23) made it into double figures after Thurstance went before Kidd returned at the end to nip out Reynoldson and Dan Vernon to finish with four for 44.
Woodman and Rob Holman made a 75-run dent in the target by the end of the 12^th over and not even a minor stumble cold derail the chase.
Holman was bowled by Martin Weightman, followed in quick succession by James Burke and David Lye.
Burke, fresh from hitting a Devon League record score of 196 for Budleigh against Plymouth the day before, was in and out after three balls for two.
Lye, whose Saturday afternoon consisted of taking 95 off Exeter, went two balls after Burke for a duck.
At 82 for three Devon needed no dramas for a while and Peter Bradley made sure there were none on his way to 20.
Bradley was run-out on 129, but any hopes Bedfordshire might have harboured of snatching the game were quickly forgotten.
While Matt Thompson battened down the hatches at one end for a patient 32 off 60 balls, Woodman got on with it at the other. He finished on 109, which came off 127 balls and included 15 fours, as he and Thompson put on 90 unbroken to win the game.
