F Division: All change at the top

F DIVISION

THE F Division leadership changed hands again with Shaldon beaten at Yarcombe, thus enabling Topsham St James to win at Chelston and move four points clear at the top.

Shaldon were restricted to 183-9 with Mark Couch top scoring with 82 at Yarcombe.

Ben Fuzzard was the star of the home show with the ball, taking 6-38.

It then became the Jonathan Rich show as he struck a sublime unbeaten 122 to lead the East Devon side to a two-wicket win.

The win is not enough for Yarcombe to force their way into the top two, they must win their final game on Saturday at Newton St Cyres and then hope Shaldon fail to bank more than six points in their last game at home to Hemyock on Saturday.

For Topsham St James the equation is much clearer for they do not play on the penultimate weekend of the season, instead they complete their programme on September 3 at Culmstock.

The Bonfire Field side will be able to travel to mid-Devon knowing precisely what they require to be crowned champions.

They got themselves into this position of strength off the back of a six-wicket win at Chelston.

Joe Thomlinson (4-12) and Nick Horne (3-16) combined to bundle the Torquay side out for 81 – Paul Smethurst was the home side stop scorer with 20. He then claimed 2-28 but Nick Horne hit 42 to lead the Saints back to the top of the table.

Paul Mitchell took 6-14 for Kingskerswell who bowled hosts Newton St Cyres out for 137.

Phil Dale top scored for the home side but then Kev Jones hit an unbeaten 44 to see Kingskerswell to a comfortable eight wicket win.

Cullompton skipper Craig Hawkins top scored with an unbeaten 42 in his side’s 167 all out at home to Hemyock.

Dave Hart claimed 5-33 for the visitors who were then dismissed for just 83.

Once again it was the young brigade who did the honours with the ball, for the Landspeed Meadow side as Max Bristow, Darren Paul and Paul Tippler, each bagged three wicket hauls.

There was no play at Exeter Civil Service where Culmstock were the scheduled visitors.
