Premier: Cornwood close gap on Bradninch

CORNWOOD gained two points on Bradninch in their struggle to get away from the Premier bottom two before the weather intervened at Exeter.

Elliot Staddon spun his way to figures of four for 13 and Asif Raza had three for 32 as Exeter were held to 166 for eight before it rained in the 43rd over.

The teams were off so long Exeter ran out of time to complete their innings.

Cornwood got in 12 overs batting time before the heavens opened again, this time terminally.

Chris Parker was 16 not out and Ryan Rickard unbeaten on 17 in a rain-stopped-play total of 47 for none after 12 overs.

Had the game reached 20 overs it would have been decided on run rate, which was tilting Cornwood’s way when the match was abandoned.

Fellow strugglers Bradninch only took nine points from their rain-off at Sidmouth, which allowed Cornwood to lose the gap in them by to points to three.

Andy Bees accounted for Blake Reed early in proceedings, but a stand of 63 between Andy Curtis (64) and Rob Holman (30) got Exeter moving.

When Holman went to Jason Hall, followed by Steve Morris to the returning Raza, Exeter an into trouble.

Raza took three for 15 from five overs in his second spell as Exeter plunged from 139 for two to 148 for six.

Staddon kept the pressure on at the other end and finally got Curtis out on 148 to a catch behind.
