Heathcoat wary of Plympton banana skin

HEATHCOAT are anxious to avoid a banana skin lying in wait when they visit Plympton.

Having deposed leaders North Devon last time out, Heathcoat now play the team propping up the table.

Winless they may be, but Plympton gave Sidmouth a few scares last Saturday before dipping out by 25 runs.

Toby Lockhead, the Heathcoat vice-captain, said it was important not to take a win for granted despite Plympton’s position.

“Plympton have obviously struggled in the Premier Division since promotion and found the standard too high for them,” said Lockhead.

“However, they will win a game this season and we have to make sure that it isn't against us.”

Heathcoat have been inconsistent themselves all season but still harbour hopes of a top-four finish.

Having beaten North Devon twice, finishing in the top four is not unrealistic.

“Historically, we always do well in the second half of the season,” said Lochead.

“We go into every game believing we can win, and then we will see where we are at the end of the season.”

Heathcoat have no selection issues and expect to be at full strength.

Plympton are without Matt Gregory – Ross Farrer is back - but are otherwise unchanged from the side that gave Sidmouth a run for their money.

Selection issues have been a bain for skipper James Carr and he has reached the point where the chopping and changing has to stop.

“Unfortunately, from last season's team we've been missing three-four of my regulars every week,” he said.

“We are going to stick with the lads we have, as on Saturday they showed great desire, determination and heart and if we manage to stay up brilliant, if not, be great experience for the young lads we have playing.

“Dave Ackford batted very well, slow but looked good and definitely going to score runs for us.

“He hasn't played much men’s cricket and nothing at this level, school cricket is nothing like men’s cricket, which he realised afterwards.

“Only playing more and more will develop him!

“After Saturdays match the lads, the club are looking forward to Heathcoat. We felt we let ourselves down at their place so hopefully can put in a performance.

“They are obviously going in the right direction and will be hard to beat but if we can repeat Saturday’s performance we will have a chance.”
