Exmouth looking to generate momentum for Sunday T20

EXMOUTH kick-off a busy weekend with a trip to relegation worriers Paignton.

The Queens Park outfit are battling to avoid an immediate return to the A Division and, as Sidmouth discovered last Saturday, are a tough nut to crack.

Paignton needed 284 to win and were 274 for eight when their overs ran out.

Exmouth were meandering along in mid-table before beating Heathcoat last Saturday to give their league season a bit of impetus.

Skipper Gary Chappell has written of winning the Premier title this year – Exmouth are 59 points behind leaders Torquay – but is targeting the ECB T20 Clubs Cup.

Exmouth have a Sunday date with St Just at Grampound Road in the West and Wales final and he wants the Paignton game to be a springboard into the final.

“It is important to keep on a winning run going into Sunday's T20 - plus we want to finish as high as possible in the league,” said Chappell.

“It won’t be easy as Paignton are scrapping at the bottom and showed Sidmouth they are a good side.”

Finlay Marks is recalled from the 2nd XI to replace unavailable Richard Baggs in Exmouth’s middle order.

Keeper-batter Richard Ashworth is back for Paignton, who need to start winning in a hurry to get out of the bottom two.

“Every weekend for us from now until the end of the season is a big game,” said skipper Connor Bryan.

“Exmouth was a close game away from home. We will go into the weekend with every confidence.”
