All change is ECB T20 final as Ynysgerwn pull out

TOMORROW’S ECB Club T20 finals at Grampound Road near Truro have been rejigged following the withdrawal of Welsh side Ynysgerwn.

The Wales and West regional final is supposed to feature representatives of from Cornwall, Devon, the West of England Premier League and South Wales.

Ynysgerwn have been forced to pull out as they have a clash of fixtures. They have an outstanding Wales Cup quarter-final against Ynystawe to play and have been told by both competition organisers they can’t postpone.

Exmouth, who are going as Devon’s representatives, were due to play St Just in a morning semi-final with Ynysgerwn and Bath meeting after lunch. The final was due to be played around 4pm.

The new schedule is to play a round robin – every side plays each other – with St Just and Exmouth on first at 10am.

The losers will go straight into a game against Bath at 1pm and the winners  will play Bath around 4pm.

If no team wins outright, run rate will be used to determine who goes through to the national quarter-finals.

Exmouth skipper Gary Chappell wants to get past St Just first before turning his attention to the other semi-finalists

“We beat St Just at this stage last year, so they will be looking for revenge no doubt,” said Chappell.

“Not really much else to say, other than we're looking forward to it and we just need to carry on playing the T20 stuff that has got us this far.”

The winners go through to the South Region Final, where Exmouth fell to Ashtead from Surrey last season.

The four regional winners will play-off at the SWALEC Stadium in Cardiff on Tuesday, September 1 in the national final.

Exmouth could run into former player Seb Benton (pictured) in the game against Bath, whom he joined this season.

Benton joined Exmouth from Paignton in 2013 and was a member of their Premier Division-winning side that summer.

He stayed on at the Maer last season despite moving to the Bristol area to work, but told Exmouth the travelling was too much to carry on commuting.
