Shobrooke looking for bounce back

SHOBROOKE Park have the perfect chance to bounce back from their defeat at Braunton when they visit leaders Chudleigh this Saturday.

The promotion race couldn’t be much tighter with only 26 points between the top five – and Shobrooke in fourth with 22 points to make up on Chudleigh.

At this end of the season – four games to go – points taken off promotion and relegation rivals count double.

Shobrooke made a respectable but gettable 176 all out at Kelsey – skipper Chris Simpson (61) and Andy Codling (30) the leading run getters.

Shobrooke were 51 for five when Codling joined Simpson and their stand of 178 got something defendable on the board.

Matt Smith (4-30) and Dan Brierley (3-41) were Braunton’s leading wicket takers.

Alex Hodges – six overs, nine runs, one wicket – was effective at keeping the score down.

Braunton won by four wickets on the back of a stand worth 41 for the sixth wicket between Mark Tovey (27) and Callum Mitchell (28).

Rob Collier opened up with 50, then Tovey and Mitchell got the chase going again after Tom Youngman (2-12) and James Bevan (2-22) slowed things up.

“We struggled for early wickets, looked in with a chance midway through, but just couldn't get on top,” said skipper Simpson.

“The last month is going to be interesting now. We really need to play better this weekend.”
