Daymond feeling confident about survival

TAVISTOCK skipper Shaun Daymond can see safety in sight after his side beat Bideford by five wickets.

With Hatherleigh and Lewdown both losing, Tavistock are now 29 points clear of the second relegation place.

They are not safe yet, but not far away from retaining the A Division place earned this season.

“It was another step in the right direction for us,” said Daymond.

“Results went our way a well, which means we have a healthy gap between us and the bottom two

“We still need to pick-up results in the last four games, but I am happy with our position.”

Tavistock had the upper hand after holding Bideford to 139 for seven in a game slimmed down to 35 overs each due to pre-match rain.

Opener Josh Roach made 67 for Bideford and Tavistock were glad to see the back of him at 106 for three to Jamie Stephens (3-25).

Skipper James Ford made 22 for Bideford. No one else got into double figures..

Roach was involved in stands of 39 with Dan Barratt and 52 with Will Barrett who made six and eight respectively.

Dave Ball (18) and Dom Scaglioni (29) got Tavistock off to a 51-run start, before Matt Stewart (2-18) and a run-out left the Moorlanders on 71 for three.

Dave Manning (39) and Jay Stevens (26no) broke the back of the chase by putting on 46, which left 23 to win in 10 overs. No problem.

Bideford skipper James Ford said rain breaks did his side no favours, but accepted Tavvy were deserved winners.

“On and off three times for rain and losing 15 overs made it difficult to set a competitive score,” said Ford.

“Tavvy’s experienced batting order never really looked in trouble.”

Ford’s 12-year-old son Jack took his first league wickets on his debut appearance, which dad said was ‘good to see’.
