Shaldon still in limbo land

SHALDON are still in limbo land at the bottom of the C Division East table following their three-wicket defeat by Uplyme & Lyme Regis in a low-scoring affair.

Play-off chasers Uplyme appeared to have hard work done after dismissing Shaldon for a measly 96.

Shaldon then reduced the visitors to nine for five in reply and another wicket then would have been terminal.

Uplyme captain Steve Batey dug his side out of the mire with an unbeaten half-century that condemned Shaldon to their 11th defeat  of the season and their fourth in a row.

Shaldon are 12 points clear of the relegation zone with Feniton (H), Barnstaple (A) and Filleigh (H) to play.

Shaldon’s innings  never really got out of second gear with Carl Woolnough’s 14 the best of a sorry set of scores.

Ollie Lee took four for 17 and Pat Baraclough three for 21.

Woolnough picked up the first two Uplyme wickets without conceding a run, got a third with the score on five and with Tshepo Legodi taking a couple the running total was nine for five in the sixth over.

Mark Batey (16) and brother Steve (52) put on 63 to salvage the situation.

Two wickets fell in a hurry to Mark Couch and Ross Abraham, but Steve Batey and Mark Brimacombe ensured there were no more slips.
