South Devon scramble to safety

SOUTH Devon live to fight again in the B Division after beating Braunton by four wickets in the relegation decider at Marsh Road.

While Abbotskerswell were effectively down, and Axminster long-odds to avod joining them, South Devon and Braunton had everything to play for.

South Devon were in the third relegation slot, two points behind Braunton, who were safe. Whoever lost was going down.

Spinner James Allen took a personal best of four for 26 as Braunton were bowled out for 132.

A 54-run stand between Ian Roberts (23) and Alfie Huxtable (29) helped Braunton to 95 for five.

Only Alex Hodges (24no) lasted long as Sean Day (2-19), Jon Martin (2-21) and Dave Knowles (2-33) backed up Allen in the business of taking five wickets for 37 runs.

South Devon got off to a 50-run start through Ali Wright (21) and Knowles (25).

Jon Baglow (2-29) and Callum Mitchell (2-26) gave Braunton some hope, but a stand of 33 between Martin (16) and Paul Hooper put South Devon in sight of victory.

Hooper was 50 not out when South Devon got over the line.
