Plymouth CS&R drop complaint over Uplyme defeat

PLYMOUTH Civil Service & Roborough won’t be making an official complaint over the outcome of their promotion play-off defeat by Uplyme after talks with Tolchards Devon League bosses.
Uplyme beat Civil by 115 runs in the promotion play off between the runners-up in the C Division East and West Divisions.
John Whetlor made an unbeaten 127 for Uplyme – and it was his involvement in the game that started a row.
Whetlor was cleared to play by the league because of an administrative error.
Although his name appears on Uplyme’s registered list of players and was approved in advance of the game by league officers, he failed the eligibility test.
Whetlor hadn’t appeared for Uplyme in either of the two seasons prior to the play off as he has been living in Australia.
Civil had no idea Whetlor wasn’t eligible until they were tipped off by another club.
Darren Bartrop, Civil’s fixture secretary, said it after discussions with the league it has been decided not to take the matter any further.
“We feel, as a club, we have a very strong case,” said Bartrop.
“In no way do we have any hard feelings towards Uplyme, as we feel the Devon League ill advised them with their decision to let John Whetlor play, in the play-off game.
“Danny Webster, our club chairman, has spoken to league officials and on hearing their reasons, is satisfied the league have acted in good faith, so we will not be lodging an official complaint.”
