Matravers doubles up at Honiton awards evening

PETE Matravers took home two top prizes at Honiton CC’s end-of-season dinner and awards evening.

Matravers was named 1st XI batsman of the year for his tally of 463 runs at an average of 66.14.

Honiton’s next-best batter with 431 runs was Brian Cann, who joined the club from Feniton during the previous close season.

Matravers was also named player of the season in the 1st XI during the presentations, which took place after dinner at the Hare and Hounds in Sidbury.

Bowler of the year was Adam Holmes, who took 25 wickets at 25.92 each.

Cann and Adrian Pullin with 22 wickets each were next best for Honiton.

The 2nd XI had promotion to celebrate after finishing top of the D Division East by four points from Halberton.

Veteran Peter Beighton (right) was the batter of the season, totalling exactly 300 runs for the champions.

Richard Hill with 29 wickets at 9.45 apiece was bowler of the year.

Will Cowley took player of the year and John Hext took home the performance award for making 118 not out against Kenn.

Chairman Andrew Lapping congratulated all the players and off-field members for their hard work in turning the fortunes of the club around after a few poor seasons.

Lapping urged them to keep up the good work to keep the club moving in the right direction.

Tea lady Annette Tucker won the new Sue Linsdell Unsung Hero Award for all her efforts throughout the season.
