Cornwood pulling away at top of table

CORNWOOD trounced Bideford by eight wickets to stretch their lead at the top of the A Division table.

Bideford, winless since returning to the A Division this season, were rolled over for 89 in the 31st of their 50 overs.

It was the second week running the Corns had bowled out their opposition for less than 90 – not a bad effort considering they were without Craig Harris and Matt Skeemer in the attack.

Dan Barratt made a top score of 26 and there were a brace of 14s for Will Barratt and Matt Shepherd.

Andy Bees showed Cornwood what they have been missing while he has been biding his time in the 2nd XI with three for 31 to nip out the Bideford middle order.

Matt Butterworth got Dan Barratt with the third ball he bowled and got into the lower order to finish with three for five.

Adam Goodliffe bowled a parsimonious spell off one for 26 in 10 overs.

Skipper Jason Hall picked off the stragglers on his way to two for none in 11 balls.

Cornwood only needed 18.5 overs to knock off the runs needed – and were led home by opener Ben Warren with an unbeaten 50.

Jackson Thompson  (5) went cheaply to Martin Stewart– and Mark Horwell failed to trouble the scorers for the three balls he faced before playing on.

Chris Parker (32no) joined Warren to knock off the rest of the runs without mishap.

Afterwards, skipper Hall declared himself satisfied with another convincing win, despite having several key players out due to injuries or other commitments.
