Allen top scores as Exmouth reach fifth

EXMOUTH are up to fifth in the Premier table after thrashing bottom side Plympton by 119 runs.

Sandy Allen top scored for Exmouth with 75 in a total of 182 for nine, which represented a decent effort by the Plympton bowlers.

Plympton got to 42 for two in reply, then it all went pear-shaped. Eight wickets went for 21 runs as the Harewood House side were skittled for 63.

Allen was the anchorman for Exmouth, batting for all but one ball of the innings.

He opened up with Andrew Buzza and went through key stands of 70 with Gary Chappell (34) and a couple of 20-odds with Richard Baggs, Marquis Clarke and Finlay Marks.

Spinner Ross Farrer (2-32) shaded the bowling starts from seamer Ryan Skinner (2-33).

Josh Mailling, currently playing for Devon against Wales at Sandford, had one for 20 – the one being Allen courtesy of a Dan Robotham stumping.

Tom Johnson opened up with Mailling and finished top scorer on 29.

No one else made more than six as the batting collapsed – and five batters didn’t manage a run between them.

The last five wickets for six runs – four of them to David Lye (4-3).

Lye finished Plympton off after Gary Chappell (2-3), Alvin Pollard (2-10) and Clarke (0-13) had softened them up.

That’s three wins on the spin for Exmouth, who took fifth place off Paignton with this one.

Skipper Richard Baggs picked out Allen and Pollard as his men of the moment.

“In my opinion it was Sandy;’s best innings for the club due to the pitch conditions,” said Baggs.

“He batted 49 overs to get us a massive score as 180 was worth 280.

“I was really pleased for Alvin, who got two important wickets.

“They just folded when the spinners came on.

“It's another win which will help us build confidence to take into the big game against Torquay this week.”

Looking up at the rest of the Premier table, Plympton skipper James Carr said: ‘There is only one way and that is up as things can't get any worse.”
