Day hits first ton to send Thors to another defeat

SOUTH Devon are tucked in behind the top two in the B Division after chalking up a 73-run over visiting Thorverton.

South Devon were the latest side to beat Thors, knocking up 265 for six at Marsh Road then dismissing Graham White’s side for 192 in reply.

There was no happy return to South Devon for Thors’ vice-captain David Baldock, who suffered a broken finger while fielding and took no further part in the game.

Sean Day top scored for South Devon with an unbeaten 128 – his first century in the Devon League.

Dave Knowles (30) and Hancock (62) put on 66 for the second wicket, before Hancock and Day took the score along to 147.

Day lost three partners with low scores before accelerating his knock at the end with an unbeaten seventh wicket partnership of 59 with Ryan Maunder (11 no).

Day’s innings contained 20 fours and two sixes.

Kobi Francis-Griggs was the pick of the Thorverton bowlers with two for 33.

Griggs also top scored in the Thorverton reply with 83.Harry Choules had 24 and White 19.

Spin was king for South Devon with three wickets each for James Allen (3-22) and Knowles (3-52). Day capped a good day with two for 22.

South Devon’s good bowling display was supported by six catches, three of which went to Paul Hooper.

The win lifts South Devon into third behind Ipplepen and Chudleigh, one point and one place above Shobrooke Park who visit Marsh Road a week tomorrow.

In the meantime, South Devon are at sixth-placed Plymstock.
