Exmouth have to wait a while to see Pyle in action

EXMOUTH supporters will have to wait a week or two before they get their first look at new signing Dan Pyle as he won’t be playing against Plymouth this Saturday.

Shobrooke Park batsman Pyle is on his way to Premier side Exmouth after an outstanding first half of the season for club and county.

Pyle, who is 17, is averaging more than 70 for Devon U17s and has a hefty average of 157 in the Tolchards Devon League B Division with Shobrooke Park.

Pyle fits games for Shobrooke in around his cricket in the 1st XI at Blundell’s School, Tiverton, for whom he has passed 50 four times in six knocks this season.

Once his school commitments are over in a couple of weeks, he will be available for Exmouth full-time.

Richard Baggs, the Exmouth skipper, said Pyle is a useful acquisition for the club.

“He us a prolific run scorer and we are delighted he has chosen to join us,” said Baggs (pictured).

“If you are a batsman there are few places better to play than Exmouth and he will get every chance to showcase his talents.

“My first instinct is to ask Dan to open and I will drop down the order.

“We have to accept a few of us are not getting any younger and we need to look to the future.

“Dan is just the sort of exciting, young player we need at the club.”

Baggs intends to name the same team that beat Torquay last time out to make it three wins in a row.

“We have been getting a bit better every game and if I can also start firing we will be close to playing at our best,” said Baggs, referring to his own lack of runs.

“I am looking to keep momentum going and hopefully a win into Sunday’s Devon cup game with Sidmouth.”

Plymouth show one change to the side. John Kerridge isn’t available but Burke is.

Plymouth lost to Sidmouth last time out, but skipper Sam Stein felt it wasn’t a bad performance.

“We played a lot better last week and are hoping we can keep improving,” said Stein. “If we do so we can give ourselves the upmost chance of winning.”
